Kendal Industrial Park successfully won an award at the "2023 Resilience and Sustainable Industry (ARSI) Appreciation" event organized by the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin). At this event, Kendal Industrial Park in Central Java, which is a joint venture company of the two largest developers from Indonesia and Singapore, namely PT Jababeka Tbk (KIJA) and Sembcorp Development Ltd, succeeded in winning the award as the best New Industrial Area in Indonesia. The award was handed over directly by the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita to the Head of Sales and Marketing for the Kendal Industrial Area (KIK) Juliani Kusumaningrum in Jakarta, on Monday (11/12). On that occasion, Juliani expressed his thanks to the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) for the appreciation given to KI Kendal as the best new industrial area for 2023. "Of course, this award will encourage us to be able to do even better in the future. This of course cannot be separated from the support of the central, regional, and private governments," said Juliani to INDUSTRY.co.id. Meanwhile, in his speech, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that this award was a form of appreciation for the extraordinary contribution of industrial players who have been dedicated to building a strong and sustainable national industry. "I hope that the award recipients can become an inspiration for many parties. In this way, they will be more active in implementing resilience policies and creating an industrial business climate that is responsible for the wider community," he said. Minister of Industry Agus further stated that environmental, social, corporate governance (ESG) practices in industrial development are increasingly recognized as key factors in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). "By developing sustainable development performance and expanding ESG policies, it will increase investor attractiveness for industrial companies," he explained. Therefore, he continued, the momentum for giving ARSI 2023 appreciation is real action by industry players in supporting the realization of the SDGs targets. For the information, Kendal Industrial Park has successfully achieved excellent performance. Since it was inaugurated by President Jokowi and PM Lee in November 2016 to November 2023, it has succeeded in bringing in 95 industrial companies from 11 countries, from Asia to Europe with a total investment value of IDR 70 trillion. "This growth is very fast for new industrial areas in the country. Therefore, the development of KIP Phase 1 (1000 ha) will be continued to Phase 2 (1200 ha), so the total will reach 2200 ha," explained Juliani. Kendal Industrial Park has also created an economic multiplier which is very beneficial for the region. It was recorded that the number of workers absorbed directly reached 33 thousand workers. Not only that, the existence of the Kendal Industrial Park also encourages economic growth in the local community and area. This is reflected in the increasing number of new economic centers, ranging from property areas to surrounding tourism businesses. Contacted separately, the Director of KIP, Purbadi said that the management and arrangement of Kendal Industrial Park were designed from the start as a world-class area with adequate infrastructure such as gas, electricity, clean water, waste management, and HSSE, to meet existing industrial needs. Apart from that, KIP also received various incentives as one of the Special Economic Zones in Indonesia. "KIP is also supported by the Manufacturing Industry Polytechnic under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry, and has links and matches with 60 vocational schools and surrounding universities to ensure the availability and quality of human resources," explained Purbadi. He continued, is also very compliant in following statutory provisions and regulations regarding industrial area technical standards, special economic zone regulations, and the environment, as well as synergy between area managers and industrial companies together with the central, provincial, and regional governments, as well as community social relations. As a benchmark for industrial areas, SEZ, or regional/provincial governments in the country, the Kendal Industrial Area helps encourage the development of industrial areas increasingly spread across the country. "As a new industrial area, KIP has also moved towards green industry and has a clear road map. For example, KIK encourages the electric vehicle (EV) battery component industry, solar cells and solar panels, and plastic recycling to invest in KIP, as well as the use of gas, and renewable energy in the Kendal Industrial Park," said Purbadi.
