KONTAN.CO.ID - KENDAL. The government inaugurated the Furniture Industry and Wood Processing Polytechnic in the Kendal Industrial Zone, Thursday (10/1). The number of first generation students is 99 people. All of the students have been prepared to plan for 16 furniture industry companies.
"The purpose of establishing a polytechnic is to encourage the growth of industrial investment through the provision of competent local industrial workers," explained Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry Haris Munandar while giving a speech.
Also to empower human resources in the Semarang region, especially Kendal, to become competent industrial workforce according to the needs of the industrial business, and as a center for innovation and research and development in the furniture industry.
The construction of the Furniture Industry and Wood Processing Polytechnic was one of the follow-up to the MoU between the Minister of Industry and the Minister of Education of Singapore which was signed in the Leader’s Retreat activity commemorating 50 years of RI-Singapore diplomatic relations.
The Furniture and Wood Processing Industry Polytechnic has received an operating permit from the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristek Dikti) and institutional approval from the Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN & RB) and has begun the first operational education since October 1, 2018 , with 3 Study Programs, namely Furniture Production Engineering; Furniture Design; Furniture Industry Business Management.
Since its inception the Polytechnic of the Furniture and Wood Processing Industry has collaborated with industry including curriculum development, student recruitment and selection, provision of teaching staff from industry, provision of industrial workplaces and graduate work placements.
For this reason, the MoU was signed between the Industrial Training Center and the Kendal Industrial Zone in terms of providing and channeling industrial labor in the Kendal Industrial Estate
In its curriculum, the polytechnic will use a dual system concept. "We adopt a dual system concept with theoretical and practical learning using a time block system, as well as an internship in the furniture industry for 4 months every year," Haris added.
To support the implementation of the dual system concept and develop an educational curriculum that anticipates the development of technology and products in the global market, the Ministry of Industry has also collaborated with Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO).
Haris explained that the educational facilities were not only intended for the administration of Polytechnic education, but were also used to provide services to industry and training industrial workforce.
