Kendal Will Become the Fashion Industry Center

PT Jababeka Industrial Estate Tbk plans to make Kendal, Central Java, a fashion city. Jababeka plans to develop the Kendal Industrial Area (KIK) as the center of the textile industry, from yarn, fabric, to fashion factories.

President Director of Jababeka S.D. Darmono said, now his side has acquired 100 hectares of land or 3.7 percent of the total 2,700 hectares of KIK land. The Rp. 20 trillion worth of land and infrastructure will be the first stage of the region's largest textile industry.

Jababeka cooperates with Sembawang Corporation Development Ltd to make Kendal a fashion city. The government is pushing for the creation of the industrial estate to be realized before Lebaran this year. "There are a lot of prospective tenants who are interested," Darmono said at the Ministry of Industry yesterday (24/2).

Besides Jababeka, April Group Director Anderson Tanoto yesterday met with Minister of Industry Saleh Husin to report on the development of paper machine 3 owned by PT Riau Andalan Pulp & Â Paper. The facility will be inaugurated in September.

According to Anderson, investment in paper machine 3 construction reached Rp 4 trillion. Paper machine 3 production capacity reaches 250 thousand tons per year. Now RAPP's production capacity reaches 2.8 million tons of pulp and 820 thousand tons of paper per year.

April also plans to build PT Sateri Viscose International (SVI) which will produce rayon fiber and high digital paper with an investment of Rp 15 trillion. The rayon production will be used to supply the needs of the garment factory. "This includes labor-intensive industries," Anderson said.

Minister of Industry Saleh Husin appreciated the expansion of the pulp and paper industry to meet domestic and export market needs. "Continuity of supply of raw materials must be maintained," he explained.
