Jokowi: Kendal Industrial Park Becomes the New Icon of RI-Singapore

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called the Kendal Industrial Park in Central Java the result of cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore as a new icon of bilateral relations between the two countries. President Jokowi, during a press statement with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at Wisma Perdamaian, Semarang on Monday, mentioned the investment cooperation between the two countries. The President considered that the form of cooperation in Kendal was a new icon of bilateral relations between the two countries which would be further enhanced in the future. "Especially regarding investment cooperation in Kendal Industrial Park, Prime Minister Lee and I agreed that this cooperation will become a new icon of bilateral relations," he said.

The President also showed his commitment to the Singapore government in a bilateral meeting which lasted approximately one hour. To the Prime Minister of Singapore, the President expressed his commitment to make Indonesia a more competitive investment destination country. "In the meeting, I have explained about economic reforms and also the laws that Indonesia continues to do so that the Indonesian economy is more competitive," he said. In addition, the two countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation in tourism. One of the things discussed by both regarding tourism is the development of new tourist destinations in Indonesia.
"The signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the tourism sector is expected to further strengthen the cooperation of the two parties in the tourism sector, including the development of new tourist destinations in Indonesia," he said. Furthermore, President Joko Widodo expressed the support given by the Singapore government in a number of regional and international issues. Included in this are cooperation in the fight against terrorism and the problems surrounding the South China Sea.

The second meeting itself was a continuation of the meeting which had been delayed. During the meeting, the President said that Singapore was an important partner of Indonesia which next year signaled the relations between the two countries which had lasted for 50 years. "Singapore is an important partner of Indonesia in various fields. Next year Indonesia and Singapore will commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations," he said.
