Steel products manufactured in Kendal, Central Java, have successfully expanded their reach into international markets. PT Auri Steel Metalindo made its inaugural export of finished lightweight steel products to Australia on Friday, 2 October 2026, shipping 60,000 bars, with an export potential of 6,000 tonnes per year, valued at IDR 132 billion.
This maiden export marks a significant milestone for Auri Steel and establishes the company as the first Domestic Investment enterprise (PMDN) in Kendal Industrial Park to export finished steel products overseas. This achievement demonstrates that manufactured products developed by Indonesian companies are capable of meeting the demands of international markets, including the Australian market which maintains high-quality standards and stringent requirements.

PT Auri Steel Metalindo was established on 28 September 2016. Auri Steel began its business operations by producing lightweight steel and galvalume roofing for the construction sector. The company started production with a capacity of approximately 5 tonnes per day and gradually expanded its capacity to reach 120 tonnes per day by the end of 2022. This development is also reflected in the growth of Auri Steel’s scale of business, with its investment value rising from around IDR 180 billion to IDR 1 trillion. Its workforce has also grown from around 7 people in 2016 to 100 in 2022 and Auri Steel currently employs 480 people, with a target of reaching approximately 1,500 by 2028.
PT Auri Steel Metalindo has grown from an SME into a globally competitive company. This has all been made possible thanks to the guidance provided by the Ministry of Industry, as well as the support and facilities offered to businesses by the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry (BKPM), the administrator of Kendal Special Economic Zone (Kendal SEZ), and the Ministry of Finance (Customs and Excise Directorate General and Directorate General of Taxes). This progress has also been facilitated by Kendal Industrial Park, which provides a highly conducive environment for the development of PMDNs.

“The entire Auri Steel team is certainly proud that today the products we manufacture in Kendal have reached Australia. This marks a significant milestone for PT Auri Steel Metalindo. At the same time, proves that PMDN’s in Indonesia can grow and bring domestic products to the international market. We hope this achievement will also serve as motivation for other PMDN’s to continue to develop and have the confidence to bring their products to the global stage,” said Pallas Pramana, director of PT Auri Steel Metalindo.
Juliani Kusumaningrum, Executive Director of Kendal SEZ, said that Auri Steel’s achievement serves not only as a significant milestone for the company, but also demonstrates the progress of the domestic manufacturing industry in producing higher value added goods. “Today’s achievement is the result of Auri Steel’s hard work, commitment to quality and strategic vision. Furthermore, PT Auri Steel Metalindo has become the first PMDN to successfully export finished steel products overseas. Until now, Indonesia’s steel sector exports have largely been dominated by raw materials or semi-finished goods. This move demonstrates that the domestic manufacturing industry possesses global competitiveness meets international quality standards, and has the capacity to penetrate markets such as Australia,” said Juliani.

The Ministry of Industry has also commended this inaugural export. PT Auri Steel Metalindo’s achievement aligns with efforts to promote an export-oriented manufacturing industry, increase the added value of domestic products, and strengthen the competitiveness of the national metals industry. This development demonstrates that, as the capacity and quality of the national industry continue to be bolstered, domestically produced goods have the potential to reach an ever-wider range of international markets.
Building on this momentum, the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transport Equipment and Electronics – Ministry of Industry – has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing to support industry players through down streaming policies, ecosystem strengthening and the expansion of export market access, in order to optimize the country’s foreign exchange potential. This achievement not only marks an important milestone in the company’s global expansion but also generates a broad multiplier effect for the national economy through job creation, the strengthening of local supply chains, and the growth of the logistics sector and supporting industries.
